Teachers in deprived areas in Asante-Akim South receive bicycles

Juaso (Ash), Oct. 19, GNA - Dr. Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, District Chief Executive for Asante-Akim South, has presented bicycles valuedat GH=A2 3,000 (30 million cedis) to 60 teachers in deprived communities in the district.

The bicycles which were donated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, was to motivate teachers in such areas to give of their best to enhance academic work.

Presenting the bicycles at Juaso, the DCE said the gesture demonstrated government's commitment towards improving the educational sector and entreated the recipients to reciprocate the gesture. He said teachers were the pillars on which the educational system rested hence it was imperative to provide them the needed incentive in order to achieve maximum results. Dr. Gyamfi-Fenteng commended teachers in the district for their hard work, which he said, reflected in the overall passes of pupils in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from 37 per cent in 2006 to 55 per cent this year.

He, however, cautioned the teachers not to sell the bicycles but use them for the purpose for which they were donated to warrant future donations. Mr. Fabian Belieb, the District Director of Education, announced that the directorate would soon open offices for various Circuit Supervisors in communities to ensure effective supervision. 19 Oct. 07
