Success of NHIS depends on health personnel- DCE

Mampong (Ash), Feb 9, GNA- Mr Thomas Edward Atakorah, the Sekyere West District Chief Executive, has noted that successful implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) depended largely on health professionals.

He has therefore, urged them to get involved in educating the people to understand the scheme as a better option for the "cash and carry" system.

The DCE was addressing a durbar of health personnel and the people of Asante-Mampong to mark the district's health week at the weekend. It had the theme: "Stay Healthy, Live Longer" at the weekend. He urged the people to take a balance diet, which he noted, encouraged healthy growth and development.

Mr Atakorah said the government places premium on the health sector, saying, it was for this reason that much efforts had been made by the government to improve the existing conditions and the working conditions of health workers.

He commended the staff of the Mampong District Hospital for their committed and dedicated service and prayed that they should sustain it. The DCE said the assembly would soon award the best five health workers at the end of the year to motivate them to work harder. Dr (Mrs) Amoo Sakyi, the District Director of Health Services, in an address read on her behalf, announced that there were measures to reduce typhoid fever and malaria cases, which she noted were common in the district.

Friends of the Hospital an association to render support services to the hospital, was inaugurated by Dr George Acquaye, the Medical Superintendent in-charge of the Mampong Hospital charged them to perform their work well.
