Former Deputy Minister of Power, John Jinapor, has warned managers of the power sector against the continuous running of all six units of the Akosombo Hydro Dam at full blast.

According to him, the practice if not stopped will have dire consequencies for the dam which over the years has been the nation’s major source of electric power.

Major parts of the country have in the past few weeks experienced unplanned power outages which is affecting both busineses and social life of the citizenry.

The Power Ministry on Monday assured that power supply will nomalize by close of day following the successful completion of tie-in operation and coupled with the measures put in place including procurement of fuel and increased power supply from La Cote d’Ivoire.

But Hon. Jinapor who’s the current Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Tuesday, stated that it is very dangerous for all six turbines of the Dam to run concurrently especially when the water level is not up.

“I’m saying that as we speak, Akosombo is running all the six units at full blast when the dam is not full and we should be very careful. When we were in power we ran the dam on maximum four turbines and on the average three turbines and it was a strategic decision. As for us, when we see something wrong…we’ll caution. We don’t want to sound as prophets of doom, but it is important that we raise the flags when things are going wrong. If you run Akosombo on six units continuously, if not care, we’ll run into problems.”
