Residents of Kwapong Hall enraged over ‘flopped’ hall week

Some residents of the Alexander Kwapong Hall of the University of Ghana are highly angered by what they call an abysmal hall week celebration organized by the executives of their Junior Common Room.

Some of the aggrieved students have threatened to assault their JCR executives over the ‘poor’ organization of the week-long celebration which was dubbed “The Spurge”.

The actions of the residents are said to be informed by suspicions that the poor outcome of the celebration was orchestrated by the JCR executives for their parochial interests as there have been numerous indications and attempts made by the executives to hide information concerning the budget for the celebrations from residents.

Speaking to Univers News, an angry resident of the hall indicated that they were disappointed in the JCR executives for trying to hide the parliamentary sitting that was geared towards briefing residents on the budget for the week’s celebration.

“I must say most residents of the hall were furious and that made them want to beat the President. How do you organize a parliamentary sitting for a large hall like Kwapong with just 10 seats? Aside the deliberate closing of windows, it will amaze you to know that the meeting was adjourned immediately hall members started to troop into the venue for the meeting. What do these executives have to hide? ”

Another resident also expressed his dissatisfaction with the organization and publicity of the sitting.

“Preparation and communication for the meeting was nothing to write home about, most of us got to know about the meeting an hour to the said meeting and even with that, the venue was changed again without any notice to residents whatsoever.”

Some residents, however, requested that the next parliamentary sitting of the Hall should be held at the quadrangle of the hall to foster transparency and general participation.

Response of the JCR

Responding to the grievances and allegations of hall members, president of the Alexander Kwapong Hall, Divine Edem Kwadwodeh, conceded to claims of poor communications but refuted all claims that the JCR executives had coordinated the failure of the hall’s week’s celebration for the purpose of personal interest.

He called on residents of the hall to remain calm as the JCR will come out with a report on the hall week very soon.
