University of Ghana Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Godfred Bokpin has lauded the university management for rescheduling the commencement of academic activities online for the remaining weeks of the semester for this academic year.

The Dean believes that this will give authorities who are directly in charge of rolling out the programme enough time to deal with the challenges with the initiative.

Speaking to UniversNews, Prof. Bokpin added that the postponement will also help students and lecturers get familiarized with the university’s online learning platform.

“The postponement will give management enough time to prepare the e-learning platforms for effective learning and also help students and lecturers to get familiar with the various platforms before the commencement of academic activities,” he told UniversNews

The online learning programme for students was scheduled to commence on Monday, April 6, after a one-week trial period, but Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of students and academic affairs, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, announced on Monday, March 30 that authorities had resolved to delay the start of the programme.

She explained that the rescheduling is to allow for more time to complete preparatory arrangements, and increase the trial testing period.

In a letter dated March 30, she mentioned that ‘all course sites have been created so lecturers and students are to acquaint themselves with the Sakai Learning Management System within this extension period’

Prof. Appiah Amfo also announced that the virtual training session will be published by the University of Ghana Computing Systems, and thus encouraged lecturers to enhance their capacity by enrolling.
