Union Workers of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have divulged their preparedness at meting out severe punishments to individuals who may try to use their power to frustrate the work of its members been asked to collect tax returns.

According to them, the extent of interference, especially from politicians, has caused the tax collection body not to meet its revenue targets for this year.

The authority has for that matter, sworn its commitment towards exposing many Ghanaian tax defaulters, and also prosecute them to serve as a deterrent to others.

Secretary for National Union of GRA Workers, Ken Tweneboakodua who spoke at the launch of the “collect, name and shame” initiative sent a strong warning to the political class, members of the clergy, Chiefs and many others in high authority who might try to stop or intimidate them in their line of duty.

Touching on that, he stressed that officers at GRA who will also try to connive with these influential persons will be dealt with accordingly.

“As long as were working within the laws, we shouldn’t fear anybody who comes off intimidating. Whether, political, clergy, whatever fear it I we’ll put all aside and work per the laws. By doing this, let’s see anybody who comes to tell us what to do because of who he is. We will name that person to be an enemy of revenue”. He stated
