Okai-Koi North produces the biggest cake for Ghana@50

Tesano (Accra - Gh) – 20 February 2007 - As the country prepares to celebrate its 50 anniversary, many organisations and institutions are also gearing up in their unique ways to help the country in the jollity of the celebrations.

In Accra, one of such community-based organisations is the Okai-Koi North Community Association, which is marking the occasion with a mammoth street party/carnival. The event, which takes place after the national march past on Independence Day, stretches from Tesano Gardens in Tesano through to the junction of Adom Clinic in Abeka.

Speaking to the press, the Chairman of the Association, Nana Otuo Acheampong, said "as one of the biggest community organisations in the capital, we plan to produce the biggest ever Ghana map cake measuring 12 feet by 6 feet by 2 feet deep". Pieces of the cake will be distributed to participants during the carnival.

The general aim of the street party, he said, "is to provide community cohesion, community celebration in a positive convivial atmosphere".

According to the chairman, the organisation would also make history by providing the longest buffet table - 400metres - of Ghanaian dishes with over 200 dishes from all the ten regions.

"We can do that because the Okai-Koi North Community Association consists of people from all the ten regions of Ghana", he said. "Floats, masquerades parades, brass band music" have all been lined up for the occasion
