The Communications Directorate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region has refuted media reports suggesting that about 20 members of the party have crossed carpet to the NDC and destroyed party's T-shirts.

It was reported that during the visit by the former President of Ghana, John Mahama in the Jomoro Constituency on Tuesday, January 8, 2018, to canvass votes from the NDC delegates ahead of the party's presidential primaries slated for January 26, twenty members of the NPP crossed carpet to the NDC and were ushered.

The caption of the publication was; "Twenty Jomoro NPP members defect to NDC, destroy Akufo-Addo's T-shirts" and it was published on Wednesday, January 9.

A statement issued by the party's Communications Directorate has put on record that those people who claimed they were members of the NPP were actually not.

"We wish to first of all state that only six persons who claimed to be NPP members did that though our records do not confirm their membership in any of our polling stations albums. We want to also state that NO party T-SHIRT was destroyed by such persons who claim to be party people", the statement emphasized.

The statement added, "We are not surprised about this politically staged defections because the NDC knowing they have loss grounds to the NPP in Jomoro wants to use such draconian tactics to throw dust into the eyes of people for them to believe that all is not well in Jomoro".

The statement opined "The desperation that led them stage this art is as a result of the general acceptance of the Hon. MP and MCE by the good people of Jomoro as a result of their visibility and good work they have done so far. What has even become their nightmare is that, Hon. Paul Essien has outperformed all the NDC MPs the Jomoro constituency has had in the past 20years, therefore, their attempt to concert stage the defection as if people are not happy about what is going on in Jomoro".

The statement has, therefore, urged the general public to disregard such report and pleaded with the NPP members to rally behind the MP and President Akufo-Addo.

RE : 20 JOMORO NPP MEMBERS DEFECT TO NDC AND DESTROY AKUFO ADDO'S T-SHIRTS

Our attention has been drawn to news item circulating on GhanaWeb that about 20 NPP members in Jomoro defected to NDC and as well destroyed party shirts.

We wish to first of all state that only six persons who claimed to be NPP members did that though our records do not confirm their membership in any of our polling stations albums. We want to also state that NO party T-SHIRT was destroyed by such persons who claim to be party people.

We are not surprised about this politically staged defections because the NDC knowing they have loss grounds to the NPP in Jomoro wants to use such draconian tactics to throw dust into the eyes of people for them to believe that all is not well in Jomoro.

The desperation that led them stage this art is as a result of the general acceptance of the Hon. MP and MCE by the good people of Jomoro as a result of their visibility and good work they have done so far. What has even become their nightmare is that, Hon. Paul Essien has outperformed all the NDC MPs the Jomoro constituency has had in the past 20years, therefore, their attempt to concert stage the defection as if people are not happy about what is going on in Jomoro.

Since Hon. Paul Essien assumed the MPship he has undertaken numerous projects and initiatives that the constituents never saw during the time of NDC members of Parliament. He has given hope to the youth and provided livelihood to most of the vulnerable in the society.

He is the only MP who has singlehandedly undertaken massive visible projects such as the construction of three admission wards for three health centres, construction of four quarters for circuit supervisors in four different circuits, delivered about 200 pieces of sewing machines to tailoring apprentices, delivered about 200 pieces hair dryers, 2,000 pieces of cutlasses to farmers, provided motorbike to the best farmer in 2017, supported about 1000 university students, supplied about 20000 pieces of exercise books to all schools in the municipality, undertaken health screening coupled with eye operation for not less than 75 persons, provided an Air condition for the Municipal Health Directorate, supplied 2500 bags of cement to communities to finish their communal projects, etc within this short period in office.

The Municipal Assembly also under the leadership of Hon. Ernest Kofie has also executed a number of projects such as the following:

1. Renovated 6unit classroom block at Ehoaka

2. Built a Six Seater toilet facility at Ehoaka

3. Constructed a network mask at Kengen

4. Constructed a network mask at New Town

5. Constructed a network mask at Kwabre

6. Reshaped the following roads, Ebonloah, Sowodadzim to Old Ankasa, Azuleti, Azuleti to Tweakor

7. Not less 2000 bags of Cement to a lot of communities

8. Repaired Nuba water system

9. Building Toilet facilities in not less than 10 communities eg. Samenye Barrier, Half Assini, Tikobo 1, Tikobo 2, Samenye, Elubo, Takinta, Bonyere, etc

10. Renovated Agric Office in Half Assini

11. Renovated Municipal Coordinating Directors' Bungalow

12. Renovated Municipal Chief Executives' bungalow

13.Renovated Municipal Education Office

14. Constructed pipe borne water at Old Ankasa, Sowodadzim and Enzimetianu

15. Construction of 3unit classroom block at Mpeasem

16. Construction of Artisan Village at Elubo

17. Construction of Articulator Terminal at Elubo

18. Giving out of street bulbs to communities

19. Helping brilliant but needy students

20. Surplying of coconut and cocoa seedlings to farmers,

21. Construction of Market Sheds in the Tikobo 1 Thursdays market, etc

These have been achieved within this short time which never happened during the time of any NDC MP or DCE in Jomoro hence their desperate attempt to discredit the effort of these hardworking leaders with such diversionary tactics.

How on Earth would any individual having chalked such successes with his/her Political Party decide to defect to another party? The aforementioned were only projects which one might argue that it has no direct benefits to the individual party person. We want to also categorically state that, most of the party's youth has had various kinds of work to do under the leadership of Hon. Paul Essien (MP) and Hon. Ernest Kofie (MCE).

Some are now working with Ghana Cocoa Board, others at Ghana Forestry Commission, Ghana National Gas Company, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service among others. So what will be the shame in belonging to the NPP in Jomoro?

We want to assure the good people of Jomoro and for that Ghanaians that the good policies of Government have rather led to an increase in our numbers and this is evident in testimonies given by people whose family members are benefiting from the Free Secondary Education for all.

We, therefore, ask you to disregard this news item because it doesn't give the true reflection of what is going on in Jomoro. We want to assure you that we shall maintain the Parliamentary seat again come 2020 and beyond.

LONG LIVE NPP

LONG LIVE JOMORO

LONG LIVE MOTHER GHANA

Signed!
