NDC lied to us; give us Mills' body - Family demands

The family of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills, is demanding that government exhumes his body for reburial in his hometown, Ekumfi Otuam.

A brother of the late Professor, Mr. Paul Ackom is an interview with Adom FM said the family cannot continuously afford to have the late head of state buried at the Asomdwee Park in Accra and hence have called on the government to do everything in its powers to ensure that the former President is reburied in the Central regional town.

“We are demanding our dead body, the leadership of the NDC have deceived us because they said after six months, they would exhume the body for reburial at Otuam…nobody is buried at the castle, only slaves but Mills is not a slave, he is a royal so please bring him home…,” he said.

The late Mills died in the run-up to the 2012 elections and has been buried at the Asomdwee Park closer to the Christiansborg castle which was the seat of government then.

Recent comments by former President Jerry John Rawlings sparked debates surrounding the death and burial of the late Law Professor.

The family insists that they are ever ready to welcome the late President home for reburial as agreed with the funeral committee in 2012.

This demand, the central regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey-Jacobs insists cannot be met as Professor Mills is a national asset and not for the family only; and that members of the late President's family who are demanding that his body be exhumed from the Asomdwee Park in Accra for reburial is ‘disgracing’ him.

“He has been the President of the Republic of Ghana, so they should know that Professor Mills no longer belongs to them…in a way, they are disgracing Professor Mills…,” he said.
