Mosis in Bawku accuse Police of bias in latest shooting

Mosis in Bawku in the Upper East region are accusing the Police of bias in the latest shooting incident that left one person dead and two others injured at Sagagbo.

The Police claim the shooting was carried out by unknown assailants, but the town folks say they suspect the handiwork of rival ethnic groups on the outskirts of the area.

A member of the Mosi Youth Association, Muhammed Dunia, told XYZ News the assailants came through the Bawku Cemetery and went straight to their targets and opened fire on them.

He said they first shot a young man who was billed to be married soon, and proceeded to the man’s fiancee’s house and shot her father in the stomach and in the arm, and also shot another guy in the arms before taking off.

Dunia said the Mosis suspect the Kusasis are those behind the shooting and accuse the Police of gross “bias” in handling such cases in Bawku.

According to him, the Police would have quickly given away any Mosi who may have committed such atrocities and so wonders why people who attack them appear to be enjoying the protection of the security agencies.

He said there will never be peace in Bawku if the security agencies keep taking sides in such criminal matters.

Bawku has always been a hotspot for conflicts but has been relatively peaceful for the past couple of years.
