MTN Ghana donates science kits to two schools in Ashanti

MTN Ghana has as parts of its educational empowerment programme, donated 280 pieces of science equipment to two selected basic schools in the Ashanti Region.

The gift is to aid the pupils to perform basic experiments in electronics such as the conduction of light.

The beneficiary schools were the Ayeduase R/C Primary in the Oforikrom municipality and the Akyawkrom M/A JHS schools in Ejisu municipality.

Mr. Simon Amoh, Regional Senior Manager of MTN in-charge of the northern sector, handing over the kits to the schools at separate ceremonies, said it is important that children are exposed to the basic practicalities in the learning of science.

“It is a bit abstract if you don’t bring the subject to experiment”, he said, adding that it was why the company saw the need to support the children with the practical learning materials”.

This would help ensure hands-on practical experiment on the subject in schools.

Mr. Amoh said MTN Ghana has selected 14 schools, it has already constructed or renovated nationwide, to donate a total of 2000 of such equipment to them.

He asked the authorities of the beneficiary schools to ensure a regular maintenance culture and also give the children the chance to practice with the science equipment.

Mr. Opoku Ofosuhene, headteacher of Akyawkrom M/A JHS, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed appreciation to MTN for the gesture and pledged to assist the children to have hands-on practicals, to whip their interest in science.
