Kum Yen Preko demo: NDC’s 'crowd' laughable – Sammy Awuku

National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party has described as problematic, the main opposition NDC’s inability to mobilize tens of Thousands of Ghanaians to join them on the streets in yesterday’s Kum Yen Preko demonstration organized by the Coalition for Social Justice (CSJ).

“This shows clearly that they are losing it in their bid to gain a foothold in Ghanaian politics” Sammy Awuku told Kasapa 102.5 FM.

Ahead of the demonstration on Tuesday, the Convener of CSJ Sammy Gyamfi who’s also the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in an interview said the demonstration will be epic and will send a strong signal to the Akufo Addo government.

National Organizer of the NDC, Joshua Akamba believes the demonstration yesterday was one of the largest mass demonstration ever held in history of Ghanaian politics insisting it was successful by all standards.

About thousand of the Ghanaian people, including Taxi drivers, military officers and ordinary Ghanaians took to the streets in protests against the poor governance of the Akufo-Addo-led administration, said the National Organizer of the NDC.

Commenting on the mammoth demonstration on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm, the ruling NPP National Organizer, said the much-talked about demo-Kum Yen Preko was a fiasco despite the increased influence of the main opposition NDC in the march.

“Infact they couldn’t hit the numbers they projected for the demonstration. Ahead of the march, the Regional Organizer of the party, Anthony Nukpenu said they were looking forward for the NDC MPs to bring onboard about 100 people each. If you do the calculation, then they should have expected not less than 1000 or 1500 considering the number of MPs they have in the region, and a total turn out of 30000.



“But the crowd that we saw is not fit for the largest opposition party that wants to snatch power from a ruling government. This is not the numbers me personally I was expecting. We’ve organized demonstrations in this country, from “Atta Adaadaa yen” under Prof. Mills in 2009 and the “W)n Gbo” demonstration that shook the foundation of NDC government, which according to International media reported that the opposition massed almost 1 million Ghanaians on the streets. So for me, this particular demonstration is nothing to write home about after the NDC heralding issues like Hunger, stark poverty and security problems among others. This shows two things that one, the party is weak on the grounds when it comes to mobilizing and organizing. And secondly, there is a disconnect between the party and the issues they marched on.

General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, as part of the protest led their sympathizers to sit on the streets with their hands on their heads mimicking persons in anguish.



Other notable personalities in the party, like Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Sam George, ABA Fuseini, Leeford Quarshie and a host of others were likewise captured sitting on the bare ground, making similar gestures.

Joining in the demonstration was Bernard Mornah, Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) who also sat on the floor.

The demonstration dubbed: “Kum Yen Preko” to wit, ‘Kill us once and for all’ was organized by the Coaliton for Social Justice (CSJ) with support from Central Democrats and Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold.
