Komenda-Edina Eguafo-Abrem District to employ 1,000 youth

Elmina (C/R), June 14 GNA - The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem, (KEEA) District Chief Executive, Mr George Frank Asmah, on Tuesday announced that the District Assembly would by the end of the November this year, employ 1,000 youth under the Youth Employment Programme.

He called on the youth in the district to avail themselves for the unique opportunity, which he said was in fulfilment of government's pledge to the youth to create job avenues for them.

Mr Asmah made the announcement, when he launched the Youth Employment Programme and inaugurated a nine-member district employment taskforce at Elmina.

The taskforce, which is chaired by the DCE, has the district employment co-coordinator, district directors of Food and Agriculture, Health and Education ministries, two representative of youth groups and representatives from Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development as members.

The taskforce is to among others, identify, mobilize and sensitise the unemployed youth to participate in the programme and also to identify potential economic and social activities in the district for sponsorship, as well as ensure the successful implementation of the programme and projects.

On the Youth Employment Programme, he said it was expected to reduce unemployment, under employment and satisfy national needs, such as food security.

The DCE said the phase one would focus on short-term activities such, "as youth-in-agric business", "youth-in-trade", "community protection system", ICT as well as "rural education teacher assistant" and "auxiliary health care workers assistants" among others.

The other taskforce members pledged to ensure the success of the programme and called on the youth to endeavour to take part in all the activities that would be introduced under the programme.
