Halt sale of Weija Dam land - Minister

Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, has by an executive fiat directed that, all land transactions within the Weija Dam land area be discontinued with immediate effect.

He has further directed that no one should sell land within the Weija Dam environment in order to forestall the wanton encroachment and arbitrary land development.

A statement issued by Mr Abrahaam Otabil, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry for Water Resources, Works and Housing and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday in Accra, said.

It said: “The position of Government in this regard is that, all illegal activities with respect to the sale of land, sand winning, logging and deforestation must be stopped and the culprits made to face the full rigors of the law”.

The statement said the community is enjoined to effectively partner government to protect and save the Weija Dam from imminent threat posed by illegalities in the area.

It said the decision was reached during a meeting between the Minister, chiefs and elders of the Ablekuma, Jumbo and the Zongo communities on Wednesday June.
