Give Obiri Boahen position - Group to Akufo-Addo

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen

The youth and elders in Odumase in the Brong-Ahafo Region are pleading with President Akufo-Addo not to forget their compatriot, Nana Obiri Boahen, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and give him political position in his administration.

Calling themselves Friends of Nana Obiri Boahen, the youth held a press conference yesterday to put their demand before the president. They said their kinsman who worked tirelessly for the NPP was being given a raw deal by the powers that be. They said if care is not taken, Nana Obiri Boahen will not benefit from Nana Addo’s government, hence the need to remind the president.

Addressing the press conference, the co-ordinator of Friends of Nana Obiri Boahen, Nash Yeboah, recounted how Nana Obiri Boahen contributed to the organisation of the NPP since 1992 when the party was formed.

He explained that after doing so much for the party, Nana Obiri Boahen was relegated to the background after the party won power in 2000 under ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor. He said despite those setbacks, Nana Obiri Boahen continued to work hard for the party until it won the 2016 elections.

Again in 2005 when the NPP retained power under the same ex-President Kufuor, he (Kufuor) waited till seven months to the end of his term before appointing Nana Obiri Boahen to a deputy ministerial position in the Presidency in-charge of security. That, they said, does not augur well for an icon of his stature in the party. They, therefore, pleaded with the president to consider Nana Obiri Boahen and give him position.

He said they organised the press conference because their patience was running out. They said if Nana Obiri Boahen is given any position in government, it would also affect them positively as he would champion their causes for them.
