Four farming communities appeal for repair of bridge

Kotokuom (Ash), April 27, GNA - Four communities in the Atwima Mponua District have called on the Ministry of Roads and Transport to initiate immediate steps to repair a weak bridge spanning River Offin at Kotokuom, which poses a great danger to both motorists and pedestrians.

The communities are Kotokuom, Saakrom, Akonkye and Apenimadi. Briefing the GNA during an inspection at Kotokuom, Mr George Boakye Danquah, a member of the Unit Committee and spokesman for the communities, said ever since the bridge was constructed in 1958, it had not seen any major repair works resulting in serious cracks and damaged railings, which is a major source of worry to the people who are predominantly farmers.

He said the bridge was likely to collapse at anytime and when this happened, a lot of cocoa, timber and foodstuffs would be locked up in the area since the place would be cut off from the rest of the Region. He expressed the hope that this call would receive the much-needed attention from the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
