Fishermen commend government for supplying outboard motors

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Enuanom Association, a group of fishermen from some coastal towns in Ghana, have expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson for the supply of outboard motors.

According to the Central Regional PRO, Ghana National Canoe Fisherman Council, and the Apofohen of Anomabu Etsiwa, Nana Kwamena Sanka II, about 99% of the fishermen have received their outboard motors.

He, therefore, expressed appreciation to the government and urged the 1% left to follow the procedures to benefit from the agenda.

“We show our appreciation by asking God’s blessing upon their endeavours. We say more grease for their elbows.”

The Central Regional PRO of Ghana National Canoe Fisherman Council and the Apofohen Anomabu Etsiwa, Nana Kwamena Sanka II, therefore urged their colleague fishermen to desist from illegal fishing activities.

“Remember that the sea is the source of livelihood of settlers along the shores, and if the sea is destroyed, we will be affected. We would not get fish to eat and sell; we cannot provide for our dependents,” he appealed.

He was speaking at a ceremony to honour Dr Ekow Sam, the founder of the Enuanom Association and the leader who led the negotiations between the fisherfolks and the government.

Dr Ekow Sam urged the fishermen to value their children's education and see it as the only means to develop the coastal communities.
