Fire destroys 15 houses at Asuoso in Nkoranza

About 15 thatched houses at Asuoso, a farming community in the Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly have been destroyed by fire.

Personal effects like cooking utensils, quantities of maize and groundnuts worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis were destroyed in the engulfing fire.

Mr Akrapim Baffoe, Assemblyman for Asuoso-Mepm-Jerusalem-Nyinase Electoral Area told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that more than 30 people had been displaced.

He said the incident occurred last Monday when most of the men had gone to farm leaving women and school children who could not fight the fire and neither could personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who rushed to the scene.

Mr Baffoe said the people expressed concern about the fire outbreak since they had prepared fire belts around the community.

He said the affected victims were keeping up with relatives and friends and appealed to NADMO, philanthropists and religious bodies for assistance to the victims.

Meanwhile the Nkoranza South Municipal Anti-Bushfire Committee has warned that any group or individual who organise group hunting would be arrested and prosecuted.
