Elders of Djetsorkope present newly installed chief to Osudoku Traditional Council

The elders of Djetsorkope, a community within the Osudoku Traditional Area of the Greater Accra Region, have formally introduced their newly installed chief, Nene Natey Djetsor, to the Osudoku Traditional Council in a grand ceremony marked by rich cultural displays, heartfelt speeches, and a renewed call for unity and development.

The ceremony, held at the Osudoku Traditional Council’s seat in Osuwem, drew a large and diverse gathering of traditional leaders, queen mothers, elders, opinion leaders, and residents from across the Osudoku area. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as community members came together to witness the formal acknowledgement of their new traditional ruler.

The presentation of the new chief is a critical part of the chieftaincy institution in Ghana, symbolising both legitimacy and allegiance to the traditional council. For Djetsorkope, the occasion represented not only a transition in leadership but also a moment of reflection on the values, responsibilities, and aspirations tied to traditional authority.

Addressing the gathering, the Paramount Chief of Osudoku, Nene Kwaku-Otiti Animle, congratulated Nene Natey Djetsor on his enstoolment and urged him to embrace his new role with humility, integrity, and a commitment to service. He reminded the new chief that leadership is not about power but about selfless dedication to the welfare of the people.

“I encourage you to always seek the wisdom of your elders and involve your community in decision-making. A united front brings progress, and your ability to bring people together will be the foundation of your success,” Nene Animle stated.

He further emphasised the need for unity among the people of Djetsorkope, pointing out that divisions undermine development.

“Together, you can achieve great strides. The chief and his people must work hand in hand to uplift the community,” he added.

Speaking on the significance of the ceremony, Nene Aklebeto, Stool Secretary of the Osudoku Traditional Council, explained that the rites and rituals performed during the enstoolment process are deeply rooted in cultural traditions. These rites, he noted, serve not only to legitimise the chief’s authority but also to bind him spiritually to the land, ancestors, and people he is chosen to lead.

Nene Aklebeto stressed that chieftaincy in Ghana goes beyond ceremonial functions, describing it as a sacred duty encompassing conflict resolution, land stewardship, cultural preservation, and community development.

Many community members who graced the occasion expressed optimism about the future under Nene Natey Djetsor’s leadership. They voiced hopes that his reign would usher in new development projects, enhance education and healthcare initiatives, and preserve the cultural identity of the area.

The event concluded with traditional drumming, dancing, and the sharing of food and drink, fostering a spirit of camaraderie among attendees.

The people of Djetsorkope left the grounds with a renewed sense of purpose, unity, and anticipation for a prosperous future under their new chief.
