Deputy Energy Minister rescues Karaga from perennial dam break disaster

The Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of Petroleum, Dr Adam Mohammed Amin Anta has gone to the rescue of the Karaga community to avert what has been a perennial disaster which continue to affect farmers in the area following the breaking of the banks of the Karaga Dam.

Over the years, the area has been noted for recurring floods in some cases recorded hundreds of displaced persons the dam which has been a source of water for irrigation breaking its banks and submerging farms in the area.

In view of this, the Minister has donated 100 bags of cement and an amount of GH?6000.00 to the Regent and elders of Karaga towards the rehabilitation of their Dam.

According to him, it was in fulfillment of a pledge he made to the Regent, who personally informed the him about the state of the dam and the need to have it worked on ahead of the impending raining season.

The Regent, who could not hide his excitement, prayed for the Minister for benevolence and also wished him well in his future undertakings. The donation was done by Uncle Tuferu on behalf of Dr Anta.

It would be recalled that last year, Floods caused by torrential rains cut off several communities from the Karaga Township in the Northern Region.

A spillover from the broken dam serving about four communities in the affected areas aggravated the situation there.

Several households and farmlands were submerged while culverts on some feeder roads were also damaged.

The dire situation has made it impossible for officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to access the affected communities.

It is the light of this local authorities are working to ensure that the dam that aggravated the flooding situation is properly maintained in order not to break its banks.
