Volta Region has recorded a drastic reduction in crime for the year 2018 compared with 2017.

Crime related activities in the Region dropped from 1,133 in 2017 to 755 in 2018, Mr. Francis Doku, the Regional Police Commander told the press on Wednesday.

The Commander who was speaking at a press soiree in Ho organised by the Regional Police Command, attributed the feat to hard work and collaboration with key stakeholders including the media.

He said the Service would continue to interact with the media to "chart a better path in ensuring" that the Service lived up to its vision of delivering planned, democratic, protective and peaceful services to meet standards of international best practice.

He said the relationship between the Police and the media had been constructive and urged the media to take the relationship to a different level and help bring crime figures further down.

Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, commended the media for its role in fighting crime and its prevention and called for closer collaboration between the police and the media.

Mr. A. B. Kafui Kanyi, Volta Regional Chairman, Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), said since the dawn of modern policing, the media and the police had been working to shape society despite the power dynamics.

He commended the Police in the Region for their efforts at fighting and reducing crime and stated the willingness of GJA to build a "watertight” relationship with the police for mutual benefit.
