Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku Bernard Okoe Boye has said in the midst of corruption allegations against the Akufo-Addo and the missing 500 excavators that, the President he knew will not yield to self-service corrupt deeds.

President Akufo-Addo has come under intense pressure from the opposition accusing him of being corrupt and presiding over a corrupt administration, with the Minister for Environment, Science and Innovation Prof. Frimpong Boateng alleged that over 500 excavators which were seized from illegal miners had gone missing.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Ledzokuku MP noted that not every member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is incorruptible or an angel and will not yield to a scheme that’s self-serving.
He explained that the President in his determination to clamp down on illegal mining admitted it wasn’t going to be easy, so he was not surprised to hear reports of activities in direct confrontation to what the President wanted to do.

He indicated that the President should have set up a framework to watch over the groups tasked to stop illegal galamsey to ensure checks and balances and to see if they are executing the mandate or worsen it by joining the galamsey business.

He said his take on the missing 500 excavators is similar to the Airbus scandal, saying “when you hear allegations on the surface they must not be absolute, but you must have the patience, resources and determination to go under and investigate the allegations and unravel the truth or otherwise,” Dr. Okoe Boye said.

He pointed out that corruption allegations were not conclusive at the time they are revealed, but they need to invest time, energy and resources to investigate the matter thoroughly.

He called on those making allegations and calling the President names to spend quality time and investigate the issues making the rounds.
