Chiefs urged to assist EC to organise free and fair elections

Asonomaso (Ash), Jan 19, GNA - A chief on Monday has appealed to his colleagues to assist the Electoral Commission to organise free, fair and acceptable elections this year. Nana Prof Abayie Boateng, chief of Asonomaso in the Kwabre District, said chiefs could assist the Commission by educating their people to refrain from acts and practices that could undermine the integrity of the elections.

They could also encourage their people, who are 18 years and above to register when the voter's register is opened and to turn out in their numbers to cast their votes during the Election Day. Nana Abayie Boateng, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said there was the need for chiefs to educate their people on the importance of elections.

He appealed to politicians to be mindful of the language they use on political platforms during the electioneering campaigns in order not to create chaos and confusion in the country.
