Chief appeals to government to connect town to electricity grid

Jelinkon (N/R), March 08, GNA - A traditional ruler in Jelinkon, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, has appealed to the government to connect the community to the national electricity grid. He said: "Our community is paying its tax as those in the cities and I therefore appeal to the government to extend electricity to our area to help improve our living conditions".

Jelinkonwura Ewutugma Seidu, chief of Jelinkon, made the appeal when Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, the Northern Regional Minister, visited the community and interacted with the people. The Regional Minister was on a seven-day tour of the western corridor of the Northern Region comprising, Bole-Bamboi, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, West Gonja and Central Gonja districts. Key among the Minister's message to the people in all the communities was peace, the need for the Representation of the People's Amendment Law (ROPAL) and the importance to register for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Jelinkonwura Seidu commended the government for embarking on development projects in the rural areas and appealed for the construction of the road to connect Jelinkon and Sawla to facilitate food transportation.

During his tour, Alhaji Boniface inspected projects being undertaken by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, presented 10 bicycles to girls who had been commuting long distances to school. 08 March 06
