Chaos in Asante Mampong over President Mahama's MCE nominee

Some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly are up in arms over President John Dramani Mahama’s nomination of Esther Dwomoh as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area.

A viral video sighted by GhanaWeb shows supporters of the NDC ransacking the party’s office in the municipality, vandalising the party’s properties, and openly setting some of the items, including office furniture, ablaze on April 10, 2025.

One of the videos shows the NDC supporters burning items of the party right in front of the office.

A number of the supporters could be heard saying that they are “going to collapse the party”.

According to them, the party presented the names of three individuals for the president to choose an MCE from the area, but none of the three persons was chosen.

“We can’t submit the names of three people and some people will go and add Dwomoh because she is an Asante. We northerners should do the work for an Asante to come and enjoy. We are not going to accept this today, we are not going to accept it tomorrow.

“Then we are going to destroy the party, we will destroy it,” one man is heard fuming.

Another woman urged President John Dramani Mahama to come to their aid and give them the person they want as MCE.

She asserted that Esther Dwomoh cannot be their MCE because she does not know their needs.

“Mahama is a peaceful person; he should give us the person we want. We don’t want the woman, she does not know our problems… we are not going to accept her,” she said.
