The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has expressed dismay at the total disregard for the rule of law by members of Delta Force, a political vigilante group, at the KMA Circuit Court last Thursday.

The Conference has therefore condemned in no uncertain terms the raiding of the Court and urged all other groups to speak against the incident.

A statement signed by President of the Ghana Bishops’ Conference, Most Reverend Philip Naameh, and issued to the media, noted that the wanton disregard for the legitimate work of state institutions and officials substantially discredit the hard won democratic credentials of Ghana. The Conference however, commended the Minister for the Interior and the Inspector General of Police for their prompt responses to the court invasion and their respective commitment to deal with the perpetrators as well as people who break the law regardless of their political affiliations.

The statement further expressed the conviction of the Catholic Bishops that it is only when the culprits are brought to book that will deter other lawless individuals and groups who think they can act with impunity and vicious disrespect for legitimate authority.

It entreated all constitutionally empowered security agencies and institutions to enforce the laws without fear or favour and ensure the safety of life and property of all Ghanaians while intensifying their intelligence gathering so as to act proactively to avert similar occurrences in future.

The statement urged also, all Ghanaians to be law abiding and never take for granted the peace and stability being enjoyed in the country. There must therefore be a collective effort as leaders and citizens to safeguard the peace, freedom and stability of the nation.
