Businesses in Bole township halted ahead of Bolewura’s burial tonight

Business activities in Bole the District Capital have all been halted ahead of preparations for the burial of the Paramount Chief of the Area tonight.

A directive from traditional authorities reveals that the directive for closure is in line with the customs and traditions of the people and warned that those who defy and open for operations risk having their shops looted by palace guards and warriors.

The mortal remains of Bolewura Awuladese Pontonpron II at the Korle Bu who died Wednesday May 31, 2017 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra while on admission is expected to be laid to rest at the royal mausoleum called “Banzen”, in accordance with the customs and traditions of the Gonja people.

The late Bolewura who was 88 years old.

Profile

The Bolewura was born in 1929. He attended the Local Authority Primary School at Kpembe, then to the Government Senior School, Tamale.

He then proceeded to the Tamale Teacher Training College. He was a Teacher from 1950 to 1957. He was later seconded to the Information Services Department from 1957. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly in 1968 and became a Member of Parliament on the ticket of the Progress Party (PP) from 1969 to 1972. He became a Magistrate in 1974 and retired from active public service in 1994.

The late Bolewura started his Chieftaincy journey on the Bole Traditional Council by becoming the Dagbiguwura in 1991 and the Mandariwura in 1994 and on 17th March, 2013, became the Bolewura.

The Bolewura’s last public statement was in April 2017 when he urged indigenes of Bole across Ghana and abroad to come home and invest in Bole which is fast expanding and has numerous investment opportunities. The Bolewura was principled and will always stand by whatever he believed in.
