Blame Jean Mensa for any fire at EC head office – ASEPA

The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability [ASEPA], has said the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Jean Mensa, will be held liable of any inferno that will occur at the EC’s head office in Accra.

This comes after the founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah charged the security agencies protecting the EC headquarters not to drop their guard because of a possible arson at the office ahead of the December general elections.

A statement issued by Mensah Thompson, Executive Director for ASEPA in response noted that: “The magnanimity of the Prophecy and the time frame within which he made those comments are not something that we can overlook, we believe that his ‘prophecy’ is part of a grand agenda to intentionally set the E.C's Head office on fire, not only to make a good case to compile a new voters register due to burnt BVD and BVR machines but also to conceal incriminating evidence of procurement malpractices against the E.C Chairperson in the ongoing procurement process for a new Biometric System.”

Mr Thompson further noted that: “We are, therefore, by this release sending a strong warning to the E.C Chairperson, that she would be held solely accountable for any fire at the E.C Headquarters from now till the 2020 elections are over.

“The so called Prophet who is deliberately throwing this treacherous prophecy into the media to attach spiritual connotations to the impending crime so as to take the public's attention away from the real perpetrators of the crime would also not be spared in case there is any fire at the EC head office, he would also be arrested and prosecuted as an accomplice to the crime.”

ASEPA is calling for an immediate fire audit of the EC Headquarters by the National Fire Service and publicly come out with its report to assure the public of the fire safety of the building.

“We also want the Fire Service to put the EC Headquarters under 24-hour fire surveillance until the elections are over to avert any plans to set the building on fire by any unscrupulous persons,” the statement said.

ASEPA is also urging the public and staff of the EC must be on the look-out for suspicious activities around the EC Headquarters especially at night and notify the Police accordingly of any potential threat around the facility.
