Ballot designs for referendum out; Yellow for ‘Yes’, brown for ‘No’

'Yes' is for those in favour of the creation of a new region and 'No' for those not in favour 'Yes' is for those in favour of the creation of a new region and 'No' for those not in favour

The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has released the design of the ballots for the December 27, 2018 referenda.

The civil exercise will be held in six areas across the country and it will determine the creation of six new regions.

In a press release on Thursday, December 13, the Commission confirmed the date for the exercise and stated: “YES is for those in favour of the creation of a new region, and NO for those not in favour”.

“The official colours that represent the issues to be determined are YELLOW for ‘YES’ and BROWN for ‘NO’,” the release signed by the Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa, said.

All eligible voters are expected to thumbprint the respective boxes as an answer to the question to be posed.

The proposed regions are Ahafo, Bono East, Savannah, North East, Oti and Western North.

The creation of the regions is a manifesto promise by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The priority given to the promise led to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo establishing the Ministry for Regional Reorganisation and Development headed by Dan Botwe with Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah as his deputy.

A GH¢20 million fund has been appropriated for the regions after an overwhelming support from the referendum.
