Asantehene appeals to all to share in the development of education

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially inaugurated the Hilltop International Science College at Daban in Kumasi and appealed to all Ghanaians to share in the responsibility of raising the quality of the nation’s education.

He said it was important for the government, missions, community, parents, teachers and school children to accept to play their expected roles well and added that the job must not be left to the government alone.

The college is one of the few institutions in West Africa offering the “Cambridge type” of secondary education and provides its students with opportunities to further their education abroad.

Students admitted are required to select from a wide range of science-based market-driven courses and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) career-development programmes.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu appealed to the management to evolve comprehensive academic curricula that would focus on developing the knowledge, character and skills of the students to make them competitive in the job market.

He said the youth must be assisted and adequately equipped with the right skills and expertise to compete with their counterparts all over the world, adding that because of globalization, educational institutions had no choice but to be innovative to stand the test of time.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu commended the management for the vision and the high standard of academic performance it had maintained over the past 15 years.

Mr. Henry Minsky, Principal of the British International School in Accra, said as an emerging economy, it was imperative for Ghana to put premium on the “Cambridge” type of education to promote the skills development of the youth.
