Anti-oti region campaigners: It is not a crime to visit the shrine to pray – Kwaku Azar

Outspoken Lawyer and Accounting Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare has hit out at the Police following the arrest of two persons by the Weta Divisional Police Command with support from the Dzodze Police in the Volta Region, over an attempt to cast a spell (juju) on the President, Nana Akufo Addo and other top officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in protest of the creation of new regions, specifically the Oti Region.

According to reports, the duo; travelled from Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region and visited the shrine on Wednesday, December 5, at Weta in the Ketu North Municipality of the Region, to put the political leaders under the control of black magic, to influence their decision on the creation of the Oti region.

The Fetish priest sensing danger filed a report to the Police with regards the two at the Weta Police station after he accommodated the two suspects peacefully into his shrine.

But taking to his Facebook wall Prof. Kwaku Asare, otherwise known as Kwaku Azar on the social media platform bared his teeth insisting that it is no crime to go to a shrine to practice divination or pray.

He argued that the Fetish priest breached his professional duties and ethics when he reported the suspects to the police since their visit was supposed to be confidential.

“It is not against the law to visit a shrine or a cathedral to pray for whatever your little heart desires!

Further, spiritual advisors need to understand that communications between them and their members are both confidential and privileged…” part of the post read.

He charged the Police to do due diligence to the families of the detained and release them.

It is not against the law to visit a shrine or a cathedral to pray for whatever your little heart desires!

Further, spiritual advisors need to understand that communications between them and their members are both confidential and privileged.

Pastor Kwashie Babanawo therefore breached his professional duty and ethics, when he reported the two persons who had sought spiritual advice from him to the police.

In any event, the communication, being privileged, will not be admissible against the two persons in any good court, assuming that there is an offense.

DCOP Doku, provide further and better particulars on why you have arrested and continue to detain Ebenezer Atsu and Shepherd Acolatse or release them immediately so they can enjoy farmers day with their families.
