The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has made a passionate appeal to the government lead by President John Dramani Mahama and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently address the dire state of road networks in her constituency, highlighting 33 specific roads beyond those already approved for construction.

The plea, which underscores a critical infrastructure deficit, was made public as residents continue to grapple with severe transportation challenges that impede economic activity, access to education, healthcare, and overall development.

In a detailed submission, Joana Gyan Cudjoe expressed gratitude for the roads already approved under various government initiatives.

However, she stressed that a significant number of other vital arteries connecting major towns and farming communities remain in a deplorable state, especially during the rainy season.

"While we are thankful for the projects that are in the pipeline, the reality on the ground demands that we do more. Our farmers cannot get their produce to market, our children struggle to get to school, and a simple trip to the clinic becomes a dangerous ordeal. I am, therefore, pleading with the government to turn its attention to these additional roads for the sake of my people," the MP stated.

The comprehensive list of 33 roads presented by the MP covers extensive areas, linking key zones such as:

From Humgebire (Gate) through Ankwaso, Juabo, Wuratrem to Wasa Akropong,

Wuratrem through Ankasie to Agona Amenfi

Agona Amenfi through Kyenkyen Nkwanta, Agona Camp, Owusu Dapaa to Amonda,

Manso Amenfi to Antonsu and Manso Amenfi through Adidaase through Aku Nkwanta to Akyeamkrom, Dominase through Asuminam through Bredi to Kwakukoa.

The list details a network crucial for the local economy, which is predominantly agrarian. The poor road conditions lead to post-harvest losses, increased transportation costs, and isolation of remote communities.

Residents and community leaders have echoed the MP's concerns.

Nana Kwame, a cocoa farmer from Ankasie, lamented, "We work hard on our farms, but when the rains come, our cocoa rots here because no vehicle can navigate the mud to transport it. We feel abandoned."

The appeal from the Amenfi Central MP adds to the growing national conversation on the need for equitable distribution of infrastructure projects, particularly in rural constituencies that form the backbone of the country's agricultural sector.

It remains to be seen how the relevant government agencies will respond to this detailed call for action.

The MP concluded, "Fixing these roads is not just about bitumen and gravel; it is about saving livelihoods, saving lives, and unlocking the economic potential of Amenfi Central for the benefit of the entire nation."
