19 suspected prostitutes arrested at Cantonments

The Police at Cantonments in Accra, have arrested nineteen persons allegedly engaged in commercial sex work in the Cantonments vicinity.

The suspects, which include a male, were arrested in a swoop over the weekend.

The swoop started late Saturday evening and ended at dawn on Sunday.

They were arrested at the Togolese and American Embassies.

Speaking to Citi News, the Crime Officer of the Cantonment District Police Command, ASP Benjamin Baah said the arrest was triggered by public complaints of their activities in the area.

He says the suspects would be processed for court after investigations. Prostitution is illegal in Ghana.

“We have observed the activities of these prostitutes. Out of our own intelligence and coupled with complaints from the public, we embarked on an exercise last Saturday night to arrest these prostitutes and in total we arrested nineteen of them which include a male,” he said.
