Ajumako Amia (C/R), Dec. 7, GNA - Fifteen hard-working farmers were on Friday awarded at the 25th National Farmers Day Celebration at Ajumako Amia in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District. Mr Robert Crentsil from Ajumako Ochiso, who was adjudged the Best District Farmer, took home a 21- inch television set, a spraying machine, full piece of wax print, six pieces of cutlasses and a pair of Wellington boot.

The other 14 farmers were also awarded with television sets, bicycle, radio sets, cutlasses, spraying machines, Wellington boots and certificates. The District Chief Executive, Mr Light Koomson commended the farmers for their contribution in feeding the country and urged them to sustain their productivity.

He urged them to adopt modern ways of farming and heed the advice they receive from technical personnel of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Mr Koomson urged the youth to get involve in the Youth in Agriculture Programme to ensure increased food production in the country. The 2009 district best farmer appealed to the government to give farmers enough financial support to expand their farms.
