Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West constituency, Ursula Owusu says if the New Patriotic Party (NPP), knew how to rig elections like the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), they [NDC] would have never won an election in Ghana.

The Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur in a recent comment has provoked the presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo and other members of the party to respond to his [Vice President's] claims that, the NPP are planning to rig the election.

Mr. Arthur in his statement that has generated controversy, admonished party supporters to be vigilant this year to safeguard the polls. “I will urge all of you to be extra vigilant. NDC needs help. On December 7, some people will try to cheat the NDC. Be very vigilant to ensure no one succeeds in cheating us,” he told party supporters at Asawase constituency at the weekend.

But Nana Akufo Addo in a response to the Vice President said, the NDC owns the copyright when it comes to the rigging of an election in Ghana.

Speaking to party supporters in Ablekuma West yesterday, Nana Akufo Addo said, if there are any group of persons whose only hope of victory in the December 7 elections hinges on rigging, then it is the President of the Republic, John Mahama, and his Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur.

According to Akufo-Addo, “what I know is that President Mahama and his Vice President own the copyright to the rigging phenomenon in Ghana. We in the NPP believe in multiparty democracy. If Amissah Arthur has seen defeat looming, I appeal to him not to say things that will anger Ghanaians. We beg of him.”

Restating the position of Nana Addo, Madam Ursula Owusu, the MP for the constituency and candidate for the NPP in the upcoming parliamentary election said, Nana Addo was spot on with his claims because the records are there for all to see.

According to her, the NDC in 2008 and 2012 rigged the elections in their favour. She said, if indeed the NPP are good at rigging elections, the NDC as a party would have never had the opportunity to rule this country.

Meanwhile, Captain Joshua Akamba (rtd), Deputy Organizer of the ruling government refuted the claims stating that, the NDC has a clean record when it comes free, fair and transparent polls.
