We’re over-relying on our past glories - John Boadu

General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu says Ghana is over-relying on its past glories boasting of being the first Western African country to attain independence.
According to him, it is important for Ghanaians and the next generation to know the significance of the founders’ day celebration by pondering over the effort, enthusiasm and the sacrifice of the forefathers who attain the independence for the country.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the NPP Chief Scribe maintained August 4 is set aside to collectively look at the history of Ghana; thus, pondering over how far the country has come and its current state.
“Some countries have done better than us . . . we have also done better than others. We have to assess what we did differently which makes us better than them, and those countries who have done better than us, what they did differently to put them out there,” he indicated.
He alluded to the developmental projects in Senegal upon his official visit to its capital city Dakar as a wakeup call for Ghanaians sit up and turn things around.
“I recently went to Dakar and if you look at their development and other places, I am afraid but we are over-relying on our past glories too much . . . if you go through the principal streets of Senegal you might mistake it to be abroad due to the kind of things and the road networks in the country. You will not see any pothole on their roads,” he bemoaned.
He stressed that Ghana was almost ahead of South Korea and Malaysia when it attained independence in 1957 but the story is far different today due to a sustained political party development where a political party will stay in power for a long time with well-crafted development plan to help the country.
He added that “the countries which have developed are countries which have been governed for many years by centre-right political parties”; citing Germany as a typical example of a centre-right political party which has ruled for many years.
