The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has appealed to the newly elected Ashanti regional executives of the party to kill internal tribal politics which is gradually gaining root in the party.

Addressing newly elected Ashanti regional executives of NDC in Kumawu, the general secretary popularly known as General Mosquito disclosed that, the party for some time now has been suffering from tribal divisiveness and backstabbing in the region.

This, he said is killing the love and loyalty the supporters used to devote to the party depending on which tribe member is elected as the flagbearer or as a President of the party.

He added that the tribal divisiveness contributed to the party losing some key parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region to their main political opponent, the NPP.

He called on party members to approach the 2020 elections with the sense of unity.

Newly elected Chairman of the party Augustus Nana Akwasi, in his acceptance remarks after defeating the former deputy minister Joseph Yamin on the chairmanship race, commended the delegates for electing a strong team to the lead the party activities in the region for the next four years.

He assured the national executives of uniting the party after the contest to secure the 30 percent vote target of the NDC in the region.
