Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the race for the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region, the stronghold of the party, is going to be a real battle between Dzifa Aku Attivor and the incumbent John Kwadwo Gyarpong.

The contest, which would see the two outdo each other with captivating campaign paraphernalia, persuasive campaign messages and superior strategies, would be climaxed on Saturday, September 1, 2018, when the elections would be held in Ho, the regional capital.

Apart from the two, 52 others would also be contesting other positions available for grabs.

According to the NDC Regional Director of Elections in the Volta Region, Paschal Agbagba, all 54 candidates, who filed to contest the regional executive positions, had sailed through the vetting successfully.

The positions of candidates on ballot papers had already been balloted for.

The campaign was flagged off on 5th of August, 2018 when the vetting results were released.

Dzifa Attivor Launches Campaign

To set the ball rolling, a former Minister for Transport and Aviation under the erstwhile NDC administration, Madam Dzifa Aku Attivor, launched her campaign last Monday, August 13, 2018.

Madam Attivor, who resigned as minister following the bus branding scandal, stressed that her many achievements at the ministry, including the upgrade of the airports in the country and construction of new ones like the Ho Aerodrome, is a testament of her competent leadership skills.

She admitted that the NDC in the region, the party’s stronghold, is suffering some form of apathy which she is committed to curing through various strategies that would unite them and win back more supporters when given the mandate.

NDC Is Greedy

She also expressed commitment to eradicate the perceived greedy tag on the NDC by the public.

Ms Attivor promised respect for grassroots members and their involvement in all activities and benefits.

The philanthropist and entrepreneur said she would use her skills, network and resources to ensure the rebranding and rebuilding of the party, establishment of welfare fund and empowerment of women and youth through entrepreneurial programmes.

She also promised a vibrant communication wing and better relationship with the media.

Ms Attivor, therefore, called on all citizens in the region, particularly party members and delegates, to vote massively for her to lead the party take power from the super incompetent NPP in the 2020 general elections.

Campaign Instructions

Meanwhile, the Elections Director of Volta NDC Mr. Agbagba has cautioned aspirants against indecent campaigns, malicious personality attacks across all platforms, including social media.

He added that candidates and their supporters who engage in any form of indecent campaign would be sanctioned, including the withdrawal of the candidature of contestants.

He also warned against lavish campaigning, adding that only a maximum of 20 posters per candidate would be allowed at the venue of the election come September.

“More so the party is peaceful and wants a peaceful election, hence thugs have been banned from the election grounds,” he stressed.
