I don’t regard Kofi Adams as NDC National Organizer – Sylvester Mensah

An aspirant in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership race and former National Health Insurance Scheme boss, Sylvester Mensah, has stated that he does not regard Kofi Adams as the National Organiser of the party anymore.

Speaking to Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah on 3FM’s Midday News, Sylvester Mensah claimed Kofi Adams has veered off his duties as an elected National Organizer of the party and does not have what is required to be regarded as one.

“Well I think Kofi Adams has lost his legitimacy as National Organizer of the party. I think that he has abandoned his job, he has just moved far away from what the demands of the job requires so I don’t recognize him in that capacity anymore, even though he is an elected National Organizer”, he stated.

His comments follow earlier comments by Kofi Adams that he was happy former President, John Mahama, has declared his intention to contest the flagbearership race of the party. Kofi Adams went ahead to predict victory for the party in the 2020 general elections with John Dramani Mahama as the leader of the party.

One would have thought that as the National Organizer of the party Kofi Adams would have kept his “joy” about John Mahama’s declaration to himself, considering that the likes of Sylvester Mensah, Alban Bagbin, Spio-Garbrah and Prof. Alabi are also in the race.

But Kofi Adams argues that his expression of joy and prediction of victory for the party does not in any way show bias towards any contender.

Meanwhile, some political analysts, including Ben Ephson have predicted that the comeback of John Mahama into the flagbearership race will limit the chances Sylvester Mensah, Alban Bagbin, Spio-Garbrah and Prof. Alabi.

Ben Ephson has particularly suggested that all other contenders consolidate their candidature if they want to beat John Mahama in the race.

But Slyvester Mensah, thinks that the suggestion is one of the many available ways to win the race but he believes there could be other plausible strategies.

“The strategy of coming together and putting up one candidate is just one of the many strategies available, it may well be the fact that the best strategy is for everyone to go into the contest. We have several options and time will tell which will be the best”, he said.

“I am saying, it is just one of many options, this hasn’t crossed our minds really, and it hasn’t crossed my mind”, he reiterated.

Reacting to other suggestions that he considers partnering one of the candidates to become a running mate, he said it is too early in the day to consider the option of becoming a running mate.

He maintains “When we get to the bridge, we will cross it, what’s important now is that I’m up for the flagbearership of the party and there is a lot of support”
