The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) needs an effective succession plan in order to give the party a chance in future general elections, Yaw Boateng Gyan, the party’s former National Organiser, has said.

According to him, if officials of the party decide not to seek re-election, the party will need to look for persons who have the institutional memory and knowledge to occupy those positions.

He indicated that the NDC did not have an effective succession plan ahead of the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, hence the party’s defeat by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Boateng Gyan told Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Friday, 4 May that: “If someone is occupying a position in the party and does not want to seek re-election, we need another experienced person who understands the work of that person to fill that position.”

He noted also that the NDC at the moment needs the right people to work with, to give the party a chance in the 2020 elections.

“At the moment, we need people who can work, not just people who will fill positions and cannot do anything. We need experienced people who will help the party because losing an election by over one million votes is no joke,” he said.
