'Rawlings not NDC founder' - Mohammed Saani

A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Mohammed Saani, has asked the leadership of the NDC to immediately apply disciplinary measures against former President Jerry John Rawlings and former Attorney General Martin Amidu.

According to him, the actions and inactions of the two personalities within the NDC have brought the NDC into disrepute and public ridicule contrary to Article 46(8) of the party’s constitution, a situation that requires immediate attention.

In his latest out lash, Mr Rawlings said former Presidents John Kufuor, John Mills and John Mahama were all corrupt. However, former Deputy Chief of Staff under the Mahama administration, Ms Valerie Sawyerr in a reply accused Mr Rawlings of portraying himself as a saint even though he is not.

Mr Amidu on his part accused the NDC of appointing Mrs Charlotte Osei as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) to help rig the election in favour of the Mr Mahama but failed.

“But as I said time without number during the 2016 elections, she was appointed by a corrupt Government precisely because of her incompetence that made her susceptible for use for an election rigging agenda. Her appointing Government failed in the rigging agenda despite all the attempts by the Commission to narrow the election to a two-party race to facilitate easy rigging for the incumbent. She has, either on her own or at the instance of her mentor, been trying to recycle herself as a neutral Electoral Commissioner after her Church Papa mediated her peaceful announcement of the election results,” Mr Amidu wrote in an article.

Speaking on this matter in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Wednesday August 9, 2017, Mr Saani said: “What these two people are doing is dragging the party’s image into the mud. They have violated the party’s constitution, and, so should be sanctioned by the party leadership.”

He added: “Rawlings is not even the founder of NDC. When the party was being formed, he was a soldier, and, so, some other persons formed the party. Our constitution states that we should have a founding father in all the districts across the country.”
