A contender for the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ejisu-Juaben municipality, Ntim Twumasi Kwaku, has called for calm among his aggrieved supporters who have been demonstrating against the nomination of Beatrice Serwaa Derchie as the MCE.

His plea comes barely a day after some irate youth in the Ejisu-Juaben municipality demonstrated over the President Akufo-Addo’s nomination of Madam Serwaa Derchie as the MCE for the area. At a news conference, Mr Twumasi Kwaku asked his angry supporters to cease any agitation and respect the decision of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“I am by this statement congratulating Madam Beatrice Serwaah Derchie on her nomination as the MCE for Ejisu-Juaben and also entreating the youth of our party in the municipality to remain calm, respect the decision of the President and refrain from engaging in any conduct that could create disaffection for our party in the municipality” he said.

He tasked all residents of Ejisu-Juaben municipality to support the President’s nominee to deliver. “Let us put to rest any grudge and unite behind the President’s nominee to discharge the responsibilities of her office in fulfilment of the promise we made to Ghanaians” Mr Twumasi Kwaku said he was hoping to be given the opportunity to serve as the MCE of Ejisu-Juaben, but in the judgement of the President, which he so much trust, Madam Serwaa Derchie deserves to serve in that capacity for the time being.

“My loyalty and commitment to the Nana Addo led administration remains unflinching and I please with all to ensure same.

“Yes, we have capable men and women in the municipality who can equally man the affairs of the assembly, but what we should not forget is that preparations are underway to create room for our involvement in the selection of the MMDCEs latest by the fourth quarter in 2018”.

Some aggrieved youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Friday, gathered at the party’s constituency office in Ejisu to register their displeasure at the nomination of Madam Serwaah Derchie as MCE.

They described the decision as an ‘error’ of historic proportions which must be corrected immediately to avert any political damage that could cause resentment among the rank and file of party in the municipality.

But the news conference by Mr Twumasi Kwaku to declare his support for the President’s nominee is likely to calm all tempers down.
