There is nothing wrong with the number of ministers appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if that is what will help him deliver on all the campaign promises he made to Ghanaians ahead of last year’s presidential and parliamentary elections, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has said.

His comment follows criticisms leveled at Mr Akufo-Addo for appointing 36 ministers so far and counting.

The president is yet to appoint 10 regional ministers as well as deputies for the ministers, once they are vetted and endorsed by parliament. He has also created new ministries including the Ministries of Railway and Development, Inner City and Zongo Development, Regional Reorganisation and Development; and Business Development among others.

Speaking in an interview with Accra News on Monday January 16, Mr Brew-Hammond said: “I think the number of ministries is high but if that will give him the space to translate his vision into economic prosperity for all Ghanaians, then it’s in order. If this number will help him deliver on his promises, then we should all embrace it.”

“36 ministries will definitely be a higher cost to the country but if that will help him deliver on all the promises, at the end the day Ghanaians will not hold him critically over the number of the minsters.”
