The Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho has urged Members of Parliament (MPs), to uphold the dignity of the House during the upcoming election campaign period; by exhibiting the highest level of maturity and restraints in the face of any provocation.

He advised all aspirants to conduct their campaign ''devoid of acrimony, insults and vile attacks.

The Speaker also advised members to deist from engaging in any physical or verbal attacks with unconstitutional bodies , as these causes citizens to lose confidence in our governance institutions, thereby creating instability and undermining our democratic credentials.''

The Speaker stressed the need for members to use the appropriate forums to seek redress when they have any grievances. Parliamentarians he said, have a solemn duty to keep the nation peaceful, since they represent an embodiment of all the representative parts of the nation.

He commended legislators for their commitment to the work of Parliament. He said, legislators demonstrated their commitment by ensuring ''long hours of sitting particularly when, the period for the second sitting had to be extended by another week to ensure that, business was completed as scheduled.''

The MPs he added, ''have worked assiduously these last few weeks to consider and pass under strenuous conditions a number of bills including; the Bank of Ghana Amendment Bill, the Public Financial Bill and the Companies Amendment Bill which are very important legislative initiatives aimed at deepening the practice of prudent financial management in the public finance system, to ensure a more responsible and transparent handling of public funds and combat money laundering.''

The Speaker added, the Executive needs to be commended for their boldness in introducing such transformative legislative proposals for the consideration by Parliament.
