‘Calls for Akufo-Addo’s re-election will create tension’

Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Samuel Annor, has said that calls by the General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and other party functionaries, for Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the party for election 2016 will create unnecessary tension within the party.

According to him, what the party needs to do is to rather unify the party to enable it wrestle power from the NDC in 2016. Media reports indicate that some members within the NPP have begun a campaign to get Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the party as its presidential candidate for 2016.

But Dr. Annor, in an interview with Citi News cautioned party executives and members to desist from such calls, adding that it is disrespectful to Nana Akufo-Addo.

In his opinion, “the focus of the party should be on whether there will be rebuilding of the party’s structures or the selection of foot soldiers” which would enable the party win power during the 2016 elections.
