SDA Pastor urges Christians to vote

Pastor Okyere Baffour, Koforidua District Pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), has said voting is a civic duty and the church is not exempted and he therefore urged all Christians to vote in the December polls.

He said every Christian must exhibit the Christian values of peace and orderliness by not indulging in any electoral malpractice that would dent the success of the election and called on all Adventists to pray for the election to ensure peace and tranquility during and after the polls.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA in Koforidua at the dedication of a chapel and 40th anniversary celebration of the Koforidua Central SDA, Pastor Baffour said the church did not support any party but would work with any government elected. He urged all to remain calm and pray fervently for the nation since every election had it own pockets of disturbances that all stakeholders must ensure did not degenerate into violence.

Dr Kwaning Boakye, the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Union Conference (GUC) of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, urged all Adventists to pray for the nation as it approaches the election.

He reiterated that the church was neutral and not in support of any party and urged the church to be guided by the fact that it is God who enthrones a King but not human and to conduct their affairs in line with the Christian values.

Pastor Boakye urged the church to focus on its core aim of winning souls for the kingdom adding that 40 years of the church was an achievement but the celebration should not be reduced into building of churches and other facilities alone.

He said the theme of the anniversary “Revival through the faith of our fathers” must rekindle their spirits and increase their commitment to the Adventist faith to ensure that the nation was filled with upright and committed citizens interested in the national development to the glory of God.

The Koforidua Central SDA was established in 1934 by a sole Adventist and was incorporated into the Ghana Union Conference of the church in 1972 and has since opened many branches in Koforidua Adweso, Anyaboni, Amanfrom and Ada.

The church also has to its credit a basic school serving the educational needs of its catchment area in Koforidua.
