Akufo-Addo consoles victims of Melcom tragedy

Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of victims who lost their lives when the Achimota Melcom Branch complex collapsed.

Speaking in an interview with Citi fm in Accra, from the Volta region, Nana Addo described the incident as “a very bad day in the history of our country.”

Nana Addo stated steps would be taken to prevent reoccurrences in the future.

The NPP flagbearer said he will be in Accra on Thursday to visit the management of Melcom and families of victims who lost their lives on Wednesday.

Over 50 people, mainly staff of Melcom, are feared trapped in the rubble as rescue officials made up of the Police, Military, Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service work around the clock to save lives.

President John Mahama has also called off his campaign in the North.
