You can’t disband us - Action Troopers

Vigilante groups serve as a source of livelihood for some individuals and must not be disbanded, Godfred Asante, Secretary of Action Troopers Security, a vigilante group within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged.

Mr Asante said Action Troopers aligns itself to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and members were promised jobs by the party after winning power.

He told Class91.3FM’s Moro Awudu on Monday, March 27 that after the 2016 election, won by the NPP, they “are waiting for our leaders for the jobs for our members”.

He said the Action Troopers Security had been in operation since 2000 and was formed to protect “ballot boxes and NPP personnel during elections”.

For him, vigilantism is their source of livelihood and plays a key role during elections because vigilantes complement the job of the police on voting day.

Meanwhile, the Action Troopers, which operates in Ashanti, has distanced itself from the recent attack carried out by the Delta Force – another vigilante group within the New Patriotic Party in the region – to remove Mr George Agyei, director of the regional coordinating council, from his office on Friday March 24 on the grounds that he was not native to the region and played no part in the 2016 campaign, hence merits no appointment in the Akufo-Addo administration.

“We are not part of the people who went to the RCC and we are condemning what they did that it is not good,” he added.
