Women urged to vote for people who promote women's interests

Cape Coast, Oct 14, GNA- Mrs Augustina Akumanyi, Deputy Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), on Thursday reaffirmed the need for women to listen carefully to campaign speeches and vote for only the people who have women's interests at heart. She told women to critically examine the manifesto of political parties and ensure that their concerns are addressed in them before joining or supporting any of them.

Mrs Akumanyi made these remarks at the Central Regional launch of the Women's Manifesto at Cape Coast.

It was launched under the auspices of the National commission on Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the coalition on women manifesto.

She said men rule the world things have been organized in such a way that women and children's interests always come secondary to theirs. Mrs Akumanyi commended the Coalition on the Women's manifesto for the significant role it played in putting the document together and urged women to train their children to become responsible and law-abiding citizens in future.

Mr Ebenezer Aggrey, an official of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in the region, asked all men to "re-examine themselves and see whether they have been fair to women in their respective endeavours".

Mr Frank Adoba stressed the need for the government, civil society organizations and donor partners to package programmes that would empower women for socio-economic and political development of the nation.
