Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, has discredited reports that his outfit is creating new constituencies ahead of the 2020 general elections.

He made this statement after the EC met Parliament’s Special Budget Committee on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.

Addressing the press after the meeting, Dr. Bossman Asare stated that the creation of new constituencies is currently not part of their agenda.

He also added that the Commission is working around the clock to present a new Constitutional Instrument (C.I) to legalize some electoral areas and polling stations which came out as a result of the creation of six new regions.

“What we are actually doing is that new electoral areas were created, new polling stations were created. We have to make sure that we have a C.I. that will cover all that. So no new constituencies are being created by the Electoral Commission,” Dr. Bossman Asare explained.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has expressed dissatisfaction at moves by the Electoral Commission to reduce centres for the voter registration exercise.

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, believes, the reduction in the number of centres will disenfranchise a lot of voters.
